Nasya Bellard Awarded 'The Child of an American Veteran' Scholarship for Her Commitment to Service and Law

Nasya Bellard, a senior at Cox Mill High School and an incoming Syracuse University student, has been honored with the $1,500 'The Child of an American Veteran' Scholarship by Chisholm Chisholm & Kilpatrick LTD (CCK Law). This scholarship recognizes the achievements of veterans and their families, with Bellard's family boasting a longstanding tradition of service in the United States Navy.

In her scholarship essay, Bellard shared the inspiring story of her great-grandmother, a pioneer as one of the first black women in North Carolina to serve as a World War II nurse. This legacy has profoundly influenced Bellard's aspirations to study political science at Syracuse University and eventually join the small percentage of black lawyers in the U.S. Her ambition extends to specializing in real estate law, with a focus on advocating for unhoused veterans, emphasizing that no individual who has served the country should be without a home.
