FemSMS Expands Reach to Support Women in Conflict Zones with New Funding

The recent funding secured by FemSMS marks a pivotal step in enhancing support for women and girls in Ukraine and surrounding regions affected by conflict, gender-based violence, and forced displacement. This initiative, supported by Project Kesher and the Jewish Federations of North America, is set to broaden its impact through innovative technology and research, aiming to reach at least 5,000 individuals over the next 18 months.

Since its inception in 2022, FemSMS has delivered over 13,000 trauma-informed messages to more than 900 women, offering a crucial lifeline in times of crisis. The expansion will include the development of a specialized FemSMS app, designed to provide essential wellbeing and safety information. Dr. Kristen Ali Eglinton of the Footage Foundation will lead ethnographic research and human-centered design workshops to tailor the service to the needs of its users.

The significance of this expansion cannot be overstated, especially as Ukraine enters its third year of conflict. FemSMS addresses the critical issue of information inequality, offering compassionate support and real-time connections to those in dire need.
