MMRF Walk/Run Events Aim to Accelerate Cure for Multiple Myeloma

The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) is set to host a series of Walk/Run events across the United States from August to December, marking a pivotal effort to bolster research and awareness for multiple myeloma, the second most common blood cancer. These events underscore the foundation's longstanding commitment to transforming the landscape of myeloma research, having raised over $600 million and contributed to the development of more than 15 FDA-approved therapies since its inception.

Michael Andreini, President and CEO of the MMRF, highlighted the remarkable progress in myeloma research, attributing it to the collective efforts of the myeloma community. Despite these advancements, Andreini pointed out the ongoing need for innovation and collaboration to further improve patient outcomes. The Walk/Run events serve as a platform for community involvement, offering participants the chance to contribute to a cause that has already tripled the life expectancy of myeloma patients.

The funds generated from these events will be channeled into accelerating the development of novel therapies, enhancing personalized treatment approaches through data, and equipping patients with vital resources to advocate for their care. The initiative kicks off with two inaugural events in California, featuring the presentation of the Spirit of Hope Award to individuals or groups who embody the foundation's mission through their dedication and resilience.

With a track record of opening nearly 100 clinical trials and facilitating the approval of over 15 drugs, the MMRF's impact on myeloma research is undeniable. The foundation's holistic approach not only focuses on scientific advancements but also on promoting health equity to ensure all patients have access to the latest treatments.
