Blue Faery's Love Your Liver Campaign Tackles Liver Cancer Risks in Black Communities

Blue Faery is taking significant steps to combat liver cancer risks in Black/African American communities with its annual Love Your Liver campaign. This initiative shines a light on the stark health disparities that see Black individuals facing a 1.5 times higher likelihood of developing liver cancer compared to the general population. Through a series of free virtual educational workshops, the campaign aims to arm community members with crucial knowledge on prevention and management of liver cancer.

The campaign kicks off with a workshop on February 3, 2025, featuring Dr. Cristal Brown, a renowned gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist from UT Health Austin. A follow-up session on February 28, 2025, will be led by Dr. Lewis Roberts, a leading gastroenterologist and liver cancer researcher from the Mayo Clinic. These sessions are designed to educate on the significant risks posed by underlying health conditions such as type 2 diabetes and hepatitis C, which can escalate the chances of developing liver cancer.

Dr. Brown highlights the critical need for awareness around these risk factors and the importance of early detection in mitigating the disease's impact. Blue Faery supports this educational mission with a suite of resources, including the Liver Cancer Community for patients and caregivers, and free Patient Resource Guides for Liver Cancer. The organization's public education programs—Love Your Liver, The Truth About Liver Cancer, and You and Liver Cancer—are central to its strategy to empower individuals with life-saving health information.
