National Rainbow College Fund Launches Scholarship for California's LGBTQ+ Students

The National Rainbow College Fund (NRCF) has taken a significant step towards supporting LGBTQ+ students in California by announcing its first scholarship application cycle. This initiative, powered by the San Diego Foundation, is set to award up to $500,000 in scholarships, with each of the 200 selected students receiving $2,500. The program is designed to alleviate the financial burdens and unique challenges that LGBTQ+ students often face in their pursuit of higher education.

Eligibility for the scholarship requires applicants to be high school seniors, current college students, or adult re-entry students who have resided in California for at least one year. A demonstration of financial need through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), California DREAM Act Application, or Federal Student Aid Estimator Tool is also necessary. The scholarship aims to cover a wide range of educational expenses, including tuition, books, fees, and room and board, for students planning to enroll in at least six units at an accredited public or nonprofit institution.
