Keep A Breast Foundation's Give Back Grant Program Awards $100,000 to BIPOC Breast Cancer Patients and Survivors

The Keep A Breast Foundation has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting breast cancer patients and survivors from Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities through its Give Back Grant program. In its fifth consecutive year, the foundation has awarded $100,000 in micro-grants to 200 individuals, furthering its mission to address systemic inequities in breast cancer healthcare and support. Since its inception in 2020, the program, in partnership with Curvy Couture and Smart&Sexy, has distributed over $700,000 to more than 1,000 recipients, offering much-needed financial relief for medical treatment-related expenses such as transportation, medical bills, childcare, and groceries.

Shaney Jo Darden, the founder of the Keep A Breast Foundation, highlighted the transformative power of these grants, stating that even small financial supports can lead to significant healing and empowerment for recipients. The selection process for the grants is uniquely community-centered, involving volunteers from the BIPOC survivor and patient community to ensure that the support reaches those who need it most. Eligibility for the program requires applicants to self-identify as BIPOC, reside in the United States, and be either undergoing active treatment or a breast cancer survivor. Notably, the program allows previous recipients to reapply, ensuring continuous support for individuals as they navigate the challenges of breast cancer.

Marquita Goodluck, the program manager and a past grant recipient herself, shared insights into the profound impact of the program, emphasizing the importance of recognition and care for BIPOC breast cancer survivors. The foundation's corporate partners, Smart&Sexy and Curvy Couture, have reaffirmed their commitment to the initiative, seeing it as a vital opportunity to uplift and celebrate the resilience of diverse communities. As the Keep A Breast Foundation marks 25 years of making a difference, the Give Back Grant program stands out as a critical effort to reduce breast cancer risk and support those most affected by the disease, particularly in underserved communities. This initiative not only provides financial assistance but also fosters a sense of community and empowerment among recipients, showcasing the foundation's enduring dedication to creating a more equitable healthcare landscape.
