Christian City Celebrates 60 Years of Service with Expanded Programs for Atlanta's Vulnerable Populations

Christian City, a Union City nonprofit, has reached a significant milestone, celebrating 60 years of dedicated service to the Metro Atlanta community. Originally established to provide a home for children in foster care, the organization has expanded its mission to encompass a wide range of services for children, families, young adults, and seniors, making it a unique entity in the region.

The anniversary marks a period of substantial growth for Christian City, with several new initiatives aimed at enhancing its capacity to serve. Among these is the construction of 160 new residential units for seniors, representing a 70% increase in housing for adults 55 and older. Additionally, a partnership with Southern Regional Medical Center has introduced weekly on-site medical services for senior residents, ensuring access to routine and preventative care.

Further expanding its services, Christian City has partnered with Two Sparrows, a Fayette County nonprofit, to support young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through the THRIVE program. This initiative provides housing, community, and skills-based programming, addressing a critical need for neurodiverse adults.

The organization's Graceland Thrift Store is also undergoing renovations, including a mural by local artist and former resident Arshaad Norwood, symbolizing Christian City's legacy of transformation. Future developments include a 15-acre mixed-use village on the campus, featuring retail, residential spaces, and public green areas, further integrating Christian City into the Union City community.

With the support of staff, donors, and community partners, Christian City is poised for its most transformative year yet, offering hope, healing, and community to all ages.

Christian City's comprehensive programs include the Children’s Village, Crossroads foster care and adoption services, THRIVE for youth aging out of foster care, Safe Place for runaway and homeless youth, Healthy Families for working families in need, Two Sparrows Village for neurodiverse adults, Affordable Active Senior Living, and a Health Care Facility operated by PruittHealth. These initiatives underscore Christian City's mission to provide a safe haven and a sense of family for all its residents.
